For my topic I'll discuss the history of early Greek music, and how it influences the music of today. Proposal: Because of its variety of form, expression, and interpretation music can be seen as a pathway between many cultures. Music can encompass something as simple as a drum beat to something as developed as opera. Since music does not require languange, the melodies, beats, and rhythms characteristic of music from one culture can easily be adopted and integrated into that of another, even despite the various language barriers between cultures. Its easy to see how researching the history of music can be a very involved task. The goal of our group(consisting of me, Laurent Piol, and Jon Militante) is to present a plausible history of how music started. We will discuss te use of different instruments, the use of different instruments, the use of different beats and rhythms, and how music from one group influenced/adopted music from another.
A nice link to some background on Greek musical history: (with a some imformation about Pythagoras.)
More of Pythagoras
A touch of greek tragedy, which shows Aristotle's influence.
A little more insight to Greek history. How music played an important
part of: Greek
"tragedy"
Some insight to the workings of greek tragedy
An interesting illustration of a lyre(similar to the ones used in ancient greece::Here( also go to the next link afterwards. It gives a pretty intersting notion of Pythagoras' contributions (I find it interesting how these philosophers take so much pride in truth and knowledge and science, yet presume to know such off the wall theories.)
