SAVING YOUR WORK IN A SINGLE TRANSPORTABLE FILE
(A GOOD FEATURE OF GE BUT ONE YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT!)

Hi Dr. White,

The problem was, when Marti used the File-> save -> save to My
Places, GE was saving only local updates to a file called My
places.kmz in a temporary folder. Unless specified wih a new
name. This is not good, since any user of GE would naively
assume that his/her work was automatically overwriting any
older version of the file.

Actually GE did it because Google is extra cautious about not destroying
user data and this mechanism is a sort of version control system.

What users need to do in order to save complete data which they see in the
places pane on the left, in a hierarchy, is to right click on the deepest
(hierarchically speaking) My Places folder icon and choose Save As. This
enables the complete list with image overlay, pushpins etc.. to be saved
into one .kmz (kml zipped) file.

Hereonwards it's smooth sailing :)

Best,
-A
